Services
I perform editing services at differing levels: a light edit to revise inaccuracies in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation; a medium edit to identity wordiness, unnecessary repetition, or ways to improve the flow of ideas; or a heavy edit to address structure, transitions, and formatting. With all types of editing, you will have the ability to accept or decline the recommended changes.

Not sure what level of editing you need? No problem—just get in touch and we can discuss your vision and goals. I work with each client individually and together we create a plan for services.

Proofreading
This basic service emends errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage. When proofreading, I focus more on the mechanics of the document than its content. Proofreading ensures that your documents are polished and ready for your audience.

Copyediting
Copyediting includes the same level of scrutiny as proofreading and adds more substantive revisions. I will point out or revise the logical order of ideas, awkward phrases, the flow of the text, and the interplay between graphics and the written word. I can cross-check references, ensure consistency of terms used throughout the document, and help with formatting.

Line editing
This is the deepest review of your work—and the most beneficial. In addition to mechanics, line editing addresses structure, organization, and content. When line editing, I focus on your voice, style, and word choices and make changes or offer suggestions to revise wordy sentences, improve your clarity, heighten the emotion of your text, and adjust the pacing for the greatest impact.
I am proficient with The Chicago Manual of Style and Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. When performing general editing, I adhere to Chicago style unless requested otherwise. I can also work with any editorial style guides from your publisher or university.

Rates
Pricing can vary with the topic, length, and complexity of the documents to edit. I offer free estimates before beginning any project. I will ask for a sample and perform an initial edit. This allows me to review your work and the level of editing needed, and it allows you to see my style of editing and make sure it's a fit for your goals. After this sample, I work with each client individually to establish a rate up front that is acceptable and fair. In general, pricing will be consistent with the rate chart presented by the Editorial Freelancers Association. Discounts are available for environmental and humanitarian nonprofits.
